In this episode of Ek Duniya Ek Awaaz, we discussing about the Companies Act 2013. The Companies Act 2013 replaces Indian Companies Act 1956 making it mandatory for corporates to define their social responsibility, spend at least 2% of net profit on social issues and report the spending in public domain. Amitabh Behar, Executive Director, National Foundation for India, talks about the role of companies towards national and societal development. In a conversation with Rakhee Bakshee, Dr Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General and CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, speaks about the Companies Act and its implications for corporates and civil society. He stressed on the role of Board of Directors of a company in framing CSR policies, their accountability and role in monitoring the social spending as mentioned in the Companies Act 2013. He also urges both civil society and the corporates to contribute to the implementation of Companies Act. Rajesh Tandon, President, Participatory Research in Asia, looks at the CSR from the point of view of Corporate Citizenship and urges civil society to act responsibly while implementing the provisions of Companies Act.
